N2  - A new Interpretation and an elementary Estimation of the Internal Rate of Return

This paper solves two practical problems in applying the Internal Rate of Return (IRR). Firstly, a new, very transparent definition for the first time enables a clear, intuitive understanding of the IRR. Secondly, a new elementary estimation formula for the first time avoids the great iterative computational effort in determining the numerical value of the IRR.
